However, when it comes to digital libraries, the interfaces have typically been designed for older children or adults. The researchers have begun to develop a digital library interface that is developmentally appropriate for young children (ages five to ten years old). The prototype system, now called "SearchKids," offers a graphical interface for querying, browsing and reviewing search results. This paper describes the motivation for the research, the design partnership established between children and adults, the design process, the technology outcomes of the authors' current work, and the lessons learned.
