The introduction provides an overview of issues for the sandwich generation and serial caregivers and providing library services to this population. The top 20 ways of serving older adults are suggested. Tables and graphs provide demographic information on: average annual growth rate of the elderly population; parent and sandwich generation support rations; grandchildren living in grandparent households by states; long-distance caregivers; care recipient characteristics; services that caregivers provide; population 85 years and over; number of men per 100 women by age; and persons 65 years and over by age, race, and Hispanic origin. Also included are: a directory of professional associations; a list of World Wide Web sites; a bibliography of books, statistical information, and videos; a bibliography of Public Library Association resources; American Library Association guidelines for library services to older adults; a list of resources on home modification and assistive technology; and materials for helping caregivers find local community services.
