| contents | Library Safari: Tips for Parents of Young Readers and Explorers = De safari por la biblioteca: Consejos para padres de lectores y exploradores jovenes. Clements, Aedin Elementary Education Library Services Library Skills Literature Appreciation Parent Participation Parent Student Relationship Public Libraries Reading Habits Visiting the library is a great way for parents to encourage their child's imagination and learning. It gives parents the opportunity to model good reading behavior and to show their child that they value books and reading. No matter how young the child is, a trip to the library can be an enjoyable outing for parents and their children. Most libraries, even large ones, have three main service areas: the circulation department, the reference department, and the children's department. Librarians can find the answer to any library question. The library is a great place for children to explore the world of knowledge and imagination. Children are never too young to begin this adventure. Making the library a regular part of family life from the time children are very young means they will be comfortable in the library as a teenager and can develop a lifelong love of learning. (RS) |
