Academic Libraries Foreign Countries Higher Education Library Administration Library Associations Library Funding Library Materials Library Personnel Library Services Library Surveys Preservation Questionnaires Research Libraries This SPEC (Systems and Procedures Exchange Center) Kit is based on a survey of Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member libraries in June 2000. The goal of the survey was to identify issues to be addressed and actions ARL might take to advance the preservation goals of the members. The survey was designed to gather data on recent changes, successes, and challenges to preservation programs, staffing and funding patterns for preservation, staffing and funding patterns for digitization efforts, and trends in managing preservation programs. A total of 87 libraries responded to the survey. A copy of the questionnaire with tabulated results is presented. The following representative documents from participating libraries are included: policy and procedure documents from Arizona State University, Columbia University (New York), the National Library of Canada, and the Smithsonian Institution (District of Columbia); plans and reports from Johns Hopkins University (Maryland), the New York State Library, Syracuse University (New York), the University of Washington, and the University of Western Ontario; organization charts from Arizona State University, Columbia University, Pennsylvania State University, and the Smithsonian Institution; and budgets from Syracuse University and the University of Tennessee.
