Academic Libraries Foreign Countries Higher Education Library Associations Library Personnel Library Services Library Surveys Questionnaires Research Libraries This SPEC (Systems and Procedures Exchange Center) Kit presents the results of a survey of Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member libraries designed to provide a description of how they are responding to demands for greater hours of access and service. Survey responses indicate what hours of access and service libraries are providing and for what parts of the year. They answer questions about staffing, security, which specific library areas are opened additional hours, partnerships, and special funding that supports extended hours. They also describe how libraries are evaluating extended hours and what libraries plan in the future. A total of 63 of 121 ARL member libraries responded to the survey. A copy of the questionnaire with tabulated results is presented. Representative documents include building access and use policies, visitor policies, extended service hours, user surveys, other service evaluation, job descriptions, budget information, and security guidelines. Selected resources, including books, journal articles, and World Wide Web sites are listed. (Contains 21 references.) (MES)
