Grants Internet Library Circulation Library Development Library Funding Library Research Library Services Library Statistics Public Libraries State Aid State Programs Statistical Data The Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) is charged with improving library services throughout the state to ensure that all citizens have access to quality library and information services. The agency is responsible for receiving and administering federal and state funds for the more than 200 public libraries in Alabama. Information is reported under the following categories: the Alabama Virtual Library; networking, development and planning (E-Rate, training, summer library program, mini-grant program, the Book Viburnum Foundation Project, and consulting); information services (circulation, reference, interlibrary loan and fax, net lending, and video department); evaluation and research; automated services; technical services (acquisitions/serials, cataloging, state databases, and government documents); Division for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (administration, circulation, audio duplication, volunteers, National Library Service, and public relations); and finances. State aid and Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) totals for 1999 are provided, in alphabetic order by library. (AEF)
