Jingxia, Li Foreign Countries Information Literacy Information Skills Information Sources Library Instruction Library Role Library Services Literacy Education Public Libraries The paper begins with an introduction defining the term "information literacy" and goes on to analyze the need for information literacy education in China. It also presents a detailed description with examples of how China's public libraries are cultivating citizens' information literacy. The experiences prove that the public library is the proper place to nurture citizens' information literacy, and that information literacy education can promote the exploration and utilization of information resources. In conclusion the paper proposes some practical methods concerning the further improvements in information literacy education. (Contains five references.) (Author)
