Friedlander, Amy Academic Libraries College Faculty Data Collection Higher Education Library Facilities Library Services Library Surveys Student Reaction Tables (Data) User Needs (Information) Users' expectations of libraries are changing as they find and obtain more information directly from the Web. To better understand how usage patterns are changing, the Digital Library Federation (DLF) and Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR)commissioned Outsell, Inc., to conduct a large-scale study of undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty members from a wide range of academic institutions. This report includes 158 of the 659 data tables, a few summary observations, and a brief discussion of some possible implications of the findings. Tables that are referenced throughout the report are currently available only in PDF format. In this document, the tables are grouped in three categories: (1) Faculty and Students; (2) Infrastructure, Facilities, and Services; and (3) Formats. The information presented in the tables overlaps to some extent; however, the tables included in Faculty and Students primarily contain data about who participated and what they do. Tables included in Infrastructure, Facilities, and Services contain data related to where faculty and students access information. Tables grouped within Formats contain comparative data on the formats and media that faculty and students use for research, teaching, and coursework. Data were collected at three types of institutions of higher education: public (state-funded) universities, private doctoral research institutions, and liberal arts colleges.
