This book shows that nonfiction texts can be as effective as narrative in early reading instruction, and offers suggestions for developing classroom libraries and choosing quality informational texts that you can use with all children. Real-life examples demonstrate the success of informational texts in a variety of classroom settings. The following chapters are included: (1) Information Text in the K-3 Classroom: Supporting Motivation and Achievement; (2) Including Informational Text in the Classroom Library; (3) Choosing Informational Books for the Classroom; (4) Using Informational Books for Read-Alouds; (5) Teaching Comprehension Strategy Using Informational Text; (6) Using Informational Text and Internet Resources to Teach Search Strategies; (7) Teaching Children to Write Informational Text; and (8) Putting It All Together.
