It has been the purpose to gather such statistics every five years, but it has not been possible to carry out the plan with perfect regularity. For forty years every annual report of the bureau has given information relating to college and school libraries, the number of bound volumes, the number of pamphlets, and the approximate value of each library being the usual limit of such annual statistics. This bulletin presents the statistics of public, society, and school libraries in 1908. An index and a bibliography are included. (Contains 23 tables.) [Best copy available has been provided.]
