It is a revision and an expansion of the Office of Education publication, "A Directory of 2,660 16mm Film Libraries," which was prepared and issued three years ago. In the compilation of this directory, a 16mm film library has been defined as any "company, institution, or organization which lends or rents 16mm films within the United States." This is the basic criterion that was used in compiling the directory so that it is a State-by-State and city-by-city list of sources from which 16mm film can be borrowed or rented. This directory includes libraries which handle entertainment films and those which handle instructional films; it includes libraries which have only one film and libraries which have thousands of films. It includes commercial dealers, colleges and universities, city and State school systems, public libraries, industrial companies and trade associations, labor unions, civic groups, religions institutions, and Government agencies. The second criterion used in compiling the directory is this: Only those 16 mm film libraries which assented to their being listed in the directory have been included.
