- Strategic Planning in College Health: A Mixed Method Study Skiles, Libby Strategic Planning Higher Education College Students Wellness School Health Services Mixed Methods Research Online Surveys Demography Allied Health Personnel Libraries Educational Resources Intervention Research Databases Higher education students have an increasing number of pre-existing health and wellness concerns when they arrive on campus. College-based health service leaders are tasked with addressing those concerns with a finite set of resources within the context of evolving healthcare and higher education industries. In order to develop a set of practices to guide college health leaders in strategically planning to meet these needs, a concurrent mixed method study was conducted. This electronic survey consisted of 7 demographic questions, 20 quantitative questions, and 3 open-ended qualitative questions. After distribution via a national college health Listserv, 112 completed responses were received. Analysis of this data found a need for a broader set of tools to support college health leaders in the area of strategic planning. As a result of these findings, a list of solutions was proposed, which included a document library, a learning series, solution-focused institutes, cultivation of research, and a consultative colleague database. These recommendations may assist college health leaders in developing and executing strategic plans. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
