Do they throw out what is old but trusted for new organizational systems, or do they continue using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system and make changes and adjustments to the system to fit individual school situations? At the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter meeting in January 2013, a group of colleagues and the author got together to debate this very issue. The discussion was fast and furious; the crowd was large and lively, and the author left the debate feeling that she had a lot more to offer the discussion than time allowed on a cool rainy day in Seattle. In this article, the authors shares her reasons on why school libraries should continue to use the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system.
