This article begins with excerpts from job listings that were posted to the American Library Association's job list in a two-month span in spring 2015 and they seem to indicate that DH is an increasingly important competency and interest for academic librarians who perform reference work. This boom has directly led to the creation of newer, more specialized positions in academic libraries in digital scholarship, digital services, media services, and digital humanities. Although specialized classes have cropped up and students are encouraged to attend talks and workshops, the author proposes that it is time DH is integrated into library school curricula and taught at the ground level for new librarians. The author argues here that integrating digital humanities theory, tools, and research into library and information science curricula is essential for creating informed and capable academic librarians who are able to rise to this new digital explosion along with the population they will serve.
