contents Process Improvement Initiatives in Access Services: The Shared Benefits of Shared Work Brown, Lesley Academic Libraries Library Services Improvement Professional Development On the Job Training Library Personnel Training Methods In 2016, Access Services staff attended a professional development course on process improvement offered at Kennesaw State University. Process improvement initiatives have been credited with devising more effective, streamlined practices by identifying and eliminating non-value-added work. The Head of Access Services adapted content from the course into a training mechanism for staff. The primary goals of the training initiative are identify procedural issues, analyze workflows, revise/document procedures, and provide opportunities for staff to engage in procedure development activities. This article will outline methods used to implement this training initiative while highlighting the importance of professional development training for library staff.
