contents Alaska's Journey to Adopting the AASL Standards Madsen, Janet Rinio, Deborah School Libraries Standards Program Implementation Elementary Secondary Education Librarians Library Services School librarians in Alaska have worked diligently to see the American Association (AASL) Standards Framework for Learners adopted by the state board of education from December 2018 until September 2020, when they were approved by the Alaska State Board of Education. The standards will be formally adopted after being signed by Alaska's Lieutenant Governor. In this article, the authors describe the realities of school librarianship in Alaska, the impetus for having the standards adopted in the state, the process of standards implementation, and what they hope to achieve in the future.
