The authors delve into the historical background, origin, implementation, and current status of distance education, highlighting the roles of the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) and the University Grant Commission (UGC). The study examines the integration and implementation of crucial guidelines from the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 within LIS programs at different levels in central, state, and deemed universities through distance education. It focuses on understanding the implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) as an academic repository to assist students and universities. Primary and secondary data for this qualitative study were collected from universities, digital repositories, and official websites of regulatory bodies. An in-depth correlational analysis was performed, covering various aspects such as the theoretical and practical framework, elective courses, project work, internships, and specific examples within LIS programs. The authors explain the standards of universities offering LIS programs through distance learning based on National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ratings, along with their geographical distribution. |
