A mixed-methods approach was employed, and data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire distributed via the WhatsApp platform owned by the Nigerian Library and Information Association (NLA). The target population consisted of 5,900 LIS professionals in Nigeria. To ensure accessibility, purposive sampling techniques were utilized to identify suitable participants and snowball techniques were employed to connect with a WhatsApp forum owned by the NLA and reach potential participants. A total of 376 responses were used for data analysis. The study revealed that the disruptive era presents both challenges and opportunities for the Nigerian LIS profession, with technological advancements and changes in user behaviour being significant factors. Continuous learning and development of new skills, particularly in digital competencies, were recommended for LIS professionals. Furthermore, the study emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnerships in addressing the profession's challenges in Nigeria. These findings contribute to the existing literature on the impact of disruptive technologies on the LIS profession in Nigeria and provide insights that can inform policies and practices for LIS professionals in the country. |
