  • School Librarians Using Smartphones for Higher Productivity during the COVID-19 Pandemic Zvjezdana Dukic Daria Pestic School Libraries Librarians Telecommunications Handheld Devices Technology Uses in Education COVID-19 Pandemics Elementary Secondary Education Computer Use Foreign Countries The main goal of this study is to examine how school librarians in Croatia use smartphone technologies to perform their professional duties. The study is guided by the assumption that smartphones gained additional significance in librarians' work during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly due to school closures and the shift to online instruction. This quantitative research employed a survey method, using an online questionnaire administered to a sample of school librarians from primary and secondary schools across Croatia. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicate that Croatian school librarians commonly use smartphones to meet various daily needs and carry out their professional responsibilities. They frequently rely on smartphones for collaboration with colleagues, delivering library instruction, and supporting their professional development. Moreover, the results suggest that, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to remote teaching, school librarians in Croatia increasingly turned to smartphones to support their work. These findings may be useful to educators in school librarianship, researchers, and practicing school librarians.
