- The Structure of M.L.S. Programs in American Library Schools Murray, Kay Extension Education Library Education Masters Degrees Nontraditional Education Surveys Questionnaire results indicate: (1) the one year Master's program is the traditional channel for entering the profession with some schools moving to two years of study; (2) an increase in opportunities for joint degrees; (3) off-campus instruction is provided; and (4) competency exams, in lieu of the Master's are becoming more widespread.
