- Parental Involvement in Emergent Literacy Skills of Urban Head Start Children. Nespeca, Sue McCleaf Beginning Reading Childrens Libraries Early Childhood Education Early Intervention Emergent Literacy Literacy Parent Child Relationship Parent Participation Preschool Children Explored the impact of parental involvement and of public libraries on Head Start children's emerging literacy skills. Found differences in the amount of parental involvement in literacy activities and the types of activities. Library use was minimal for fear of damaging books, transportation problems, or lack of time or effort. Suggested improvements include home book delivery and parent workshops. (AA)
