  • The Systems Librarian: Re-Integrating the "Integrated" Library System Breeding, Marshall Printed Materials Libraries Library Services Library Automation Internet This article discusses the current environment of the ILS (Integrated Library System) plus add-ons tailored for electronic content and its future. It suggests that while the ILS may be mature, the supplemental products are not and the linkages among them are even less so. On the technical front, the recent interest in Web services gives reason to believe that the evolution of an infrastructure to support better integration lies ahead. The article concludes whether or not one agrees with the premise that the automation environment lacks sufficient integration, the need to offer more cohesive and simple-to-understand interfaces to libraries' users seems urgent.
