  • Hidden Treasures. Uncatalogued Materials in Libraries Orlans, Harold Research Libraries Archives Library Services Library Materials Cataloging School Libraries The Huntington is a great library set in a magnificent arboretum with trees from around the world. Yet its resources, like those of other libraries, do not match its needs. Important holdings remain uncatalogued and inaccessible to scholars. Many collections were more accessible before they were given to a library, where they can sit for an uncertain period waiting to be catalogued. Most libraries have large backlogs of uncatalogued books and documents. Librarian of Congress Luther Evans used the library's mounting backlog, product of vast post-World War II acquisitions with blocked U.S. funds, as a strategy to increase Library of Congress appropriations.
