  • Pop Star: Jeffrey Gegner--Hennepin County Library, Minnetonka, MN Public Libraries Library Materials Library Services Librarians User Needs (Information) Fiction Intellectual Freedom This article details the work of Jeffrey Gegner o the Hennepin County Library in Minnetonka, Minnesota. For Jeffrey Gegner, his day job as Adult Materials Selection Specialist for the Hennepin County Library is not that different from his evening job as a country and western nightclub DJ. Gegner is opposed to a literary snobbery he believes is common in librarianship. Both genuine respect for customers' needs and a belief in the principle of intellectual freedom motivate him. His conviction about the equality of all library materials was strengthened when he heard author Jayne Ann Krentz, at the 1996 Public Library Association conference, say that "popular fiction deserves its place" on library shelves because people need popular fiction.
