A school library web site that supports the needs of the school community through information and links to appropriate resources allows anywhere/anytime access and becomes an integral part of the information services provided by the staff of the Resource Centre. Essential to the whole project is a management plan so that what needs to get done is done. Appoint a project manager and develop a work plan that defines the phases and detailed tasks of the project. Develop and display a list of who is responsible for what, and the date it is due. Include milestones to ensure there is steady progress, and celebrate these as they are achieved. Interwoven with all these decisions are the technical issues or who will host the site on the Internet, whether it should stand alone or be part of the school site, and who will pay the fees associated with an online presence. Some districts do not allow school-based sites to be on staff members' private domains; others are limited by the size of the site that can be hosted. |
