- A Teacher's Influence Doesn't Apply Only to Students Coatney, Sharon Library Role School Libraries Librarians Lesson Plans Teacher Role Teacher Responsibility In the need of teacher-librarians to organize, to categorize, to preserve, to select, to deselect, and to acquire, sometimes the other half of the job is easily overlooked. And yet, it is the most important piece. Who does not remember those late Sunday nights writing lesson plans for the week or maybe plans to just get through the next day?Oddly enough, they begin to realize that those lesson plans are not just about teaching children or young adults but are also about teaching learners of all ages. Elementary and secondary classroom and special area teachers, as well as building administrators, are under attack, deluged with laws and reports and current new directives. Yet, they are expected to keep up with new literature, new trends in instruction, new findings in their perspective subject areas, new technologies--the list goes on and on. We can help them, and sometimes we don't even realize that we are doing it. Perhaps the hardest part of the job is that of being a mentor to the entire school.
