Today's students live in an information-rich "cocoon" that most librarians did not grow up in, said David Loertscher, professor at the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University and facilitator of the summit's student achievement panel. "You see, there are only really two ages in the information world, and that's pre-Google and Google, and once a kid gets access to this new environment, the old methods of teaching and learning must be reassessed," Loertscher said. How can librarians prove their worth? By presenting evidence of student learning in school libraries.
