However, even with these new outreach pathways, success still depends on knowing your audience and having the ability to see beyond the "buzz" of technology. Best practices for outreach should emphasize a personal touch in the use of these new and powerful tools, enlivening the technology and creating an opportunity to build interpersonal communication with users over the long term. In this article the author suggests the best practices for four popular outreach approaches: (1) Blogs; (2) RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds; (3) SDIs (Selective Dissemination of Information); and (4) E-mail alert services.
