- Everyone's Librarian Patton, Jessica Rae Librarians School Libraries Elementary Schools Reading Aloud to Others Childrens Literature Teaching Methods Library Role Internet Reading Material Selection Library Services In this article, the author describes a day in the life of Sandy Meagher, a librarian for 22 years at the Honesdale, Pennsylvania, elementary school. On a normal day in the library, Meagher's activities include conducting sessions of read-aloud time, assisting children in selecting research materials for a class project, and guiding Internet explorations in the media center. Meagher contends that it is paramount to balance books and technology, especially at the elementary level. She works hard to introduce children to the best literature, stating that the technology is never going to go away and has enhanced the way children learn, but that she would never want it to take the place of the wonderful books that are out there.
