| contents | Meet Me at Morning Sing Rodia, Becky Social Development Primary Education Music Singing School Community Relationship Parent Participation School Activities Student Responsibility Educational Environment In this article, the author shares her experience in visiting Mount Lebanon School in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mount Lebanon (pre K-3) calls itself a school community, and that community has a strong showing in every aspect of school life, beginning with the way the building is laid out. To get almost anywhere in Mount Lebanon School, one has to walk right past the library, which stretches the length of one hallway, with no walls or doors to separate it from anybody who might want to wander through. Every Friday morning, before beginning the school day, students and teachers gather in the gym to sing. Students' families and community members are also invited. Mount Lebanon school leaves one feeling happy--happy about the inviting library and even happier about the enthusiastic children and energetic teachers who start each day with music. |
