To serve the diverse communities that uses library services, a growing number of libraries have been investigating the ins and outs of offering virtual reference in languages other than English. Developing this kind of service in languages spoken by various library user groups involves a special set of challenges that must be addressed, from selecting virtual reference software that offers user-friendly interfaces in other languages to securing the services of bilingual personnel. In this article, the author describes how they implemented an online bilingual library service at the Ward Chipman Library in University of New Brunswick's Saint John campus.
