Doctoral Degrees International Studies Research Methodology Thinking Skills School Libraries Research Skills Library Services Academically Gifted Critical Thinking Problem Solving High Schools The Library Media Center of the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, a high school specializing in Government and International Studies, located in Richmond, Virginia, serves close to 650 gifted students in grades 9-12. The skills of Governor's students range from the neophyte ninth-grade researcher to experienced faculty members embarking on their doctoral studies. To maximize the research skills of these students, the author relates that she teaches them how to think critically about their research and ask themselves what it is they are really looking for. In this article, the author shares ideas on how to help students master research skills. She also offers her own strategies on building an effective media center. Because contemporary librarians of today will no longer recognize the library of the future as the children of the future will use information in ways and formats that are unimaginable at the present time, the author also emphasizes the importance of honing students' problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.
