contents Impacting School Improvement Harvey, Carl A., II School Libraries Librarians Participation Role Educational Improvement Educational Planning Across the country, school improvement plans and school improvement committees are the guiding forces in schools. As school improvement plans are created, revised, and evaluated, library media specialists have an opportunity to demonstrate how they can play a critical part in the team that strives to increase student achievement in their building. The goals and strategies in the school improvement plan are the responsibility of every teacher in the building to execute in his or he classroom--including the library media specialist. The subject or grade level does not matter because the school improvement plan provides a centralized focus on what areas need to be improved. Library media specialists should not only be aware of the school improvement plan, but should also be part of the development, implementation, and evaluation. By being an active participant in the process, the library media specialist articulates how the library media center program can support and enhance the school improvement plan. (Contains 2 tables and 4 online resources.)
