Studies have demonstrated that they are not only effective tools for helping all children become more literate, but they also provide an enjoyable and simple way to introduce children to books they might not otherwise read. Audiobooks have also proven to be effective when working with students who are learning to speak or read the English language. Listening as a class allows all members of the group to participate in discussions from a common experience, regardless of the students' reading abilities. In this article, the author presents audiobooks recommended for most collections and are unabridged productions. The audiobooks recommended here are perfect for individual or group listening, but library media specialists might also use audiobooks to kick-start interest in a series or genre.
