They prefer the Internet to traditional libraries because they consider the Internet to be easier to use, more convenient, open 24/7, and full of more up-to-date material ("Digital Disconnect" 8). The challenge, therefore, is to offer them library sources and services via the Internet--the virtual school library/the school library Web page. Promoting reading and supporting research have always been goals for school libraries: in today's digital environment, however, it is possible to achieve these goals in a virtual setting. This article explores ways to promote reading among students and to support research virtually via a quality school library Web page. |
