  • Valuable Volunteers: How to Find, Use, and Keep Them McGown, Sue W. Volunteers Volunteer Training Library Services School Libraries Recruitment Family School Relationship Family Involvement School Community Relationship Foreign Countries A healthy volunteer program can be a great asset to any school library. Volunteers do much of the routine work that then frees the librarian to work with students individually or in groups, providing instruction and reading guidance. In addition to the physical work volunteers provide, they become strong advocates for a school library program because they learn all that school libraries do and and how they do it. They understand the process of preparing books for the shelf because they are involved in the many steps. In this article, the author presents several ideas for finding, using, and keeping volunteers. These ideas have been gathered by the author from various individuals.
