- My Virtual Assistant Saves the Day Weldon, Lorette S. J. Library Personnel Library Administration Governance Academic Libraries Journal Articles The author is a library director whose job is to develop, organize, manage, and operate a repository for research and scholarship in the area of higher education governance. She works on both the physical and online collections. It was a big job for her even when she had an assistant. But when her assistant left, it was nearly impossible for her to keep up. She needed help in order to: (1) periodically update the library database; (2) answer routine requests for information; (3) manage periodicals, including checking in journals, claiming missing issues, and renewing subscriptions; (4) file books, reports, journal articles, and other materials both in print and digital forms; and (5) provide general assistance as needed, including phone calls. So she decided to create a virtual assistant (VA). In this article, the author shares the steps in creating a virtual assistant. (Contains 5 figures.)
