She compares her work on the Arkansan frameworks with her work on the committee that wrote the new American Association of School Librarians (AASL) "National Standards for the 21st-Century Learner" and offers tips for those on other state committees: (1) Pay attention to relevant national standards; (2) Read the professional literature; (3) Talk to colleagues who are not directly involved in writing state frameworks; (4) Get outside the box; (5) Before starting the process, make some decisions about the the goals and process of framework-building; (6) After the frameworks are written, plan for implementation; and (7) Remember that the focus should be on student learning. |
