The university's James A. Zimble Learning Resource Center provides web-based access to more than 9,000 electronic resources in order to support their approximately 7,500 global users. The author is the lead developer and database administrator in the library's IT department. In the September 2007 issue of "Computers in Libraries", Stephen Brown, the director of their group, and the author presented how they revitalized this early electronic resource portal using open source software. Briefly, they discussed how they made use of MySQL and various programming techniques in order to boost system performance. They call this revitalized system electronic resources (ER). In the past year they have continued to revise and improve ER. Since providing information to their patrons is at the heart of their charter (and profession), their primary goal continues to be to simplify and speed data delivery. This time out the author will focus on three simple search aids that can be easily coded and implemented on any system. (Contains 5 figures.)
