| contents | The Use of Digital Library Skills in the Emergent Information Market in Botswana Ojedokun, Ayoku A. Moahi, Kgomotso H. Job Training Information Systems Electronic Libraries Foreign Countries Library Skills Librarians College Graduates Sampling Graduate Surveys Information Science Library Science Information Science Education Library Education This study probed the use of digital library skills by MLIS graduates, and their perception of employment preparation for the emergent information market in Botswana. The study used a survey approach. The study was carried out in 2004. A total of 32 MLIS graduates (1996-2003) of the Department of Library and Information Studies in employment were surveyed. The sampling technique used to identify past graduates in employment was snowballing. The findings suggest that not all of the digital library skills are used and that the emergent information market, although still located in the traditional library or information unit, includes elements related to networks and distributed information systems. Most graduates feel that they have been adequately prepared for the market, although some feel that they would have been more prepared if the training had also been practical, as opposed to being theoretical.
