contents Library of the Year 2008: Laramie County Library System, Wyoming--The Impact Library Berry, John N., III Access to Information Public Libraries Library Networks Library Facilities Literacy Partnerships in Education This article features Laramie County Library System (LCLS) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, which is named as Gale/"Library Journal" 2008 Library of the Year. It is not just strong, effective publicity or the fine new building or even a staff built around its ability to connect with the people, although all of those things add to the impact of Wyoming's Laramie County Library System on the city and county it serves. It is not just the latest technology bringing cutting-edge access to information and entertainment to library users or a host of partnerships to respond to county needs. The library is much more than all that to the 85,384 independent people who live in Laramie County. LCLS has tremendous impact every day, a new green main facility, and a service model committed to making life richer and better in Cheyenne and the county. The impact of LCLS is the anticipated result of a carefully planned and brilliantly executed vision and mission that grew out of the library's relationship with the people it serves.
