The establishment of this institute, which was later known as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College and has now become Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), marks one of the most important events in the educational and social history of modern India. The Maulana Azad Library (MAL) is one of the oldest and the largest libraries on the subcontinent. It was established with the foundation of Madrasatul Uloom at Aligarh in 1875, which became Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1877 and then became the full-fledged Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. Maulana Azad Library is the central library of the university. This article describes how MAL implemented its automation project. (Contains 1 table and 1 figure.)
