  • Collaboration: It's a Gamble on a Fixed Schedule Rowe, Glenda Smith Flexible Scheduling Cooperation Media Specialists Information Literacy School Libraries Librarian Teacher Cooperation Team Teaching Information Skills One cannot dispute the value of collaboration. It brings concreteness to concepts for the children and provides a seamless transition to teaching information literacy. The path to student excellence lies in collaboration and flexible scheduling. Although a library media specialist is new to the profession, he or she has likely attended conference sessions about partnerships, read professional books and articles about collaboration, and perhaps participated in webinars or blogged with others about teaming with faculty. Collaboration and flexible schedules are the benchmarks of the profession. But some library media specialists remain "fixed" in a fixed schedule--with little hope of changing it. Collaborating with teachers is a bit of a gamble--risks mixed with patience. In this article, the author discusses how to collaborate on a fixed schedule and shares her experience in collaborating with teachers. Here, the author asserts that despite fixed schedules, collaboration can be achieved through ingenuity, approachability, and persistence.
