Libraries need advocacy because so much of what goes on in them is invisible to the public eye. If the public thinks that circulating books is all that librarians do and all that they have to do, then how can they expect them to be impressed by the influence within the school community? If those people are decision-makers and hold the purse strings, how they perceive the library program is even more significant. In this article, the author describes the advocacy work she does for her library. She also shares how her library program became televised in an award-winning show. General tips for advocacy are also presented.
