| contents | Keeping Up: Personal Staff Development Woolls, Blanche School Libraries Professional Associations Educational Media Media Specialists Ethics Resource Materials Cooperation Reading Technology Uses in Education Grants Grantsmanship Story Telling Accreditation (Institutions) Homosexuality Sexual Orientation Conferences (Gatherings) Some essential components of "keeping current" with trends and new developments in the school library field for library media specialists includes attending conferences and reading professional literature. Beginning in May 2007, one article on "keeping up" each year has been devoted to summarizing the major themes in conferences and professional literature for the previous year. This article covers conference programs such as the California School Library Association, the Pennsylvania School Librarian's Association, the Texas Library Association, and the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association, among others. The 2008 conferences and review of professional literature repeat some themes of previous years such as assessment, collaboration, ethics, reading, and technology and add new topics such as grant writing; storytelling; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender resources; and accreditation visits. |
