Sabbatical in Paradise Weintraub, Tamara Sabbatical Leaves Librarians Community Colleges Phenomenology College Libraries Cultural Literacy Cross Cultural Training Library Skills Foreign Countries A community college librarian from Southern California describes her semester-length sabbatical on the Pacific island territory of New Caledonia, and how the professional, cultural, and language experiences changed her outlook about her job back home. Working at a local library on several projects organizing and processing special collections of materials, the author returned with a new set of useful skills, a refreshed sense of purpose, and a greater understanding of the cultural and language experiences of her own library's diverse users.
