- Information Habits of Community College Students: A Literature Survey Ashe, James Casey College Freshmen Community Colleges Library Role College Libraries Literature Reviews Information Literacy Library Instruction Information Skills Information Seeking Learning Resources Centers User Needs (Information) User Satisfaction (Information) Cognitive Style Since the advent of the Internet and particularly the ability to search pages on the World Wide Web, the role of the library in this information age has been changing rapidly; no longer is it possible to only be an expert on collections, subject categorization and call number organization, the librarian must also be a technologist and a diviner of electronic information. The purpose of this literature review is to delineate several issues related to the question: how are the information-seeking habits (biases, preferences) of community college freshmen impacted by instruction on effective information retrieval, value-added practices of reference librarians, and the adoption and marketing of virtual reference services in a community college library/learning resource center setting? Attention must be paid to these factors when planning and implementing virtual reference.
