They work in concert with the content, skills, and knowledge base used to meet the needs of students and faculty. At first the author had difficulty with the term :dispositions" when it appeared in "AASL's Standards for the 21st-Century Learner". Through further analysis she changed her position, noting that in the evaluation of a teacher, one looks for solid evidence of content expertise or the "science" of teaching. Also, it is equally important to consider that a teacher exhibits a deep commitment to student learning, is open-minded and reflective, is engaged and enthusiastic, and is confident and willing to be flexible--disposed as it were to the "art" of teaching. The authors' personal analysis showed that teachers really do address dispositions in the instructional programs. |
