One such update is synchronous digital reference, which applies instant messaging technology to library service. Todd Library at Waubonsee Community College (Sugar Grove, Illinois) introduced this type of reference service in order to fulfill certain goals as outlined in its mission statement and to satisfy the accreditation requirements of AQIP. Although the technological challenge has been met, follow-up will be necessary to gauge the overall effectiveness of this service.
