Parents, teachers, and community members often ask school librarians for suggestions concerning educational gifts for children. Literacy, however, is the greatest gift any adult can give a child. The gift of literacy can take many paths and use many different tools. This article describes how a thoughtful gift can be used to heighten a child's interest in reading. This article offers a list of recommended, award-winning books that have an accompanying movie. The list contains both classic and modern stories. Many of the books have won awards such as the Caldecott, Newbery, Parent Choice, and Corretta Scott King. In addition, a list of suggested activities is provided to enhance the experience.
